GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The United States Hockey League ("USHL") announced Monday that Steel alternate captain Graham Lillibridge has been named USHL Defenseman of the Week for the period ending Nov. 5, 2017 (Week 5). The veteran blueliner notched six points over the weekend for the first-place Steel, totaling two goals and four assists in Chicago's three games this past weekend.
Lillibridge, 18, leads all USHL defensemen with 12 points (2+10) through 10 games this season. The Geneva, Ill. native was a key piece in Chicago's Clark Cup Championship last season, including notching the primary assist on the Cup-clinching overtime goal in Game 5 of the 2017 Clark Cup Final. He was named 2016-2017 USHL Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year and was selected for the USHL All-Academic Team.
Committed to Yale University (ECAC), Lillibridge is in his third USHL season. Originally tendered by Muskegon, with whom he spent his rookie season of 2015-2016, the defenseman was acquired by the Steel in a May 2016 trade with the Lumberjacks.
Lillibridge's award is the first weekly honor this season for the Eastern Conference leading Steel (7-2-0-1, 15 pts.). Chicago took home six Player of the Week awards last season.
Green Bay's Trenton Bliss (Forward) and Fargo's Ryan Bischel (Goaltender) also earned Week 5 honors.
The Steel are on the road the next two weekends, starting with a visit this Friday, Nov. 10 to the Dubuque Fighting Saints at 7:05 p.m. All Steel games are carried live on Mixlr (free audio) and Hockey TV (iPPV). For more information, visit ChicagoSteelHockeyTeam.com/broadcast.
Chicago's next home game is Friday, Nov. 24 at 7:05 against the Lincoln Stars. It's Superhero Night and a Meijer Kids Day - kids 12 and under can receive an Attack Preferred ticket, popcorn, Steel light-up wand and post-game autographs, all for just $10.
