Lights FC goalkeeper Abraham Romero saved a penalty kick in the 6th minute of action, but less than 60 seconds later he was a victim of a wonder goal by Alejandro Guido to open the score for San Diego.
Las Vegas didn't trail long in this match, with Cal Jennings taking advantage of a fantastic pass from Roberto Molina to tie the game in the 17th minute. Molina just returned to Lights FC after playing for the El Salvador National Team in the Concacaf Nations League, including a match against the US Men's National Team on Tuesday night.
After making his MLS debut on Saturday afternoon with LAFC in Seattle, Danny Trejo made the trek down to San Diego and was a halftime substitution for Lights FC and he was key in this match. In the 68th minute he found the back of the net for his team leading eighth goal of the 2022 USL Championship season to give Las Vegas a 2-1 lead in what ended up being the game winning goal.
With the victory, Lights FC jumped to eighth place in the Western Conference standings and are only three points away from third place. The team's 22 points in 16 games surpasses the total they had during the 2021 USL Championship season (21 points in 32 games).
SCORING SUMMARY:
1-0 San Diego, Alejandro Guido - 7th minute
1-1 Las Vegas, Cal Jennings - 17th minute
2-1 Las Vegas, Danny Trejo - 68th minute
