Lights FC Ties 1-1 on the Road Against Defending League Champions
April 29, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Las Vegas Lights FC News Release
Lights FC faced San Antonio FC in the team's final game of its 6 match road stretch to kick off their 2023 USL Championship season.
A penalty kick was awarded to San Antonio early in the first half, with Las Vegas goalkeeper Leo Diaz blocking Jorge Hernandez's shot. Marking this the second PK that Diaz, a season long loanee from Argentinian club River Plate, has stopped this year.
The momentum was in Lights FC's favor and after denying the defending champions of an opportunity, they created one of their own. Tabort Etaka Preston stole the ball deep in SAFC territory, served midfielder Justin Ingram who buried a shot in the back of the net to open the score for Vegas in the 12th minute.
San Antonio tied the game in the 42nd minute with a fantastic free kick from Cristian Parano, the 2019 USL Championship Young Player of the Year award winner.
With the 1-1 draw, Lights FC avoided defeat visiting San Antonio for the first time in franchise history, and they did so with SAFC being the USL Championship defending title holders.
Las Vegas finished their 6-game road stretch to kick off their 2023 regular season with 5 ties and 1 defeat. The Lights will now play three consecutive home games and four out of their next 6 matches at Cashman Field.
NEXT GAMES:
Lights FC will host the team's home opener weekend with two games in three days at Cashman Field.
First off on Friday, May 5th with the Biggest Cinco de Mayo party in Las Vegas at 7:30 p.m. against the Charleston Battery and then versus San Antonio FC on Sunday, May 7th at 3 p.m. on Family Day.
