Lights FC Kicks off Important Homestand with Three Matches in Seven Days
August 18, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Las Vegas Lights FC News Release
(Las Vegas, NV) - The shortened 2020 USL Championship season rolls on quickly for Las Vegas Lights FC as they prepare for an important three-game homestand over the next seven days. Further, the matches represent the beginning of 12 matches over the next seven weeks making for a heavily congested schedule as Lights FC battles to get back into playoff contention.
The homestand starts Wednesday night when the Tacoma Defiance comes to town for a match that was originally scheduled for August 12th but was postponed last week out of an abundance of caution after a player scheduled to participate in the match tested positive for COVID-19. Saturday sees the top team in USL Group B arrive when the defending USL Western Conference Regular Season champion Phoenix Rising FC comes to Cashman Field. Then next Tuesday the homestand ends with a nationally televised match against Orange County SC aired live on ESPN Deportes.
Lights FC, which has currently played the least amount of matches in their group, look to make significant ground on their playoff chase hopes with up to nine points in the standings up for grabs this week. Further adding to the importance is two of the matches are against fellow Group B opponents providing Lights FC a great opportunity to gain further ground in the standings.
Coming off three straight one goal losses, Lights FC looks to get into the win column against a Tacoma team that has always struggled at Cashman Field. These two teams have a unique history featuring the home squad. Specifically, Tacoma has never won at Cashman Field with Lights FC outscoring them 9 to 1 all-time. However, on the flip side, Lights FC has never won at Tacoma while being outscored by a 7:1 margin all-time.
