March 30, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Las Vegas Lights FC News Release
Las Vegas, NV - Lights FC attempts to set history again by hosting its first women's soccer match at Cashman Field with the express goal of setting an all-time attendance record for women's soccer in the State of Nevada.
In ten days, on the afternoon of April 9th, Lights FC will play Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at 2pm. Immediately following the match, UNLV Lady Rebels will take on the University of Arizona in the day's featured match. Admission provides fans access to both matches.
"Soccer is not just the world's most popular sport, but also by far & away the most popular sport for local kids to play -- both boys & girls," said Lights FC Owner & C.E.O. Brett Lashbrook. "We are ecstatic to be able to get a match like this to further prove that Las Vegas is a true soccer market. We can't wait to not just break the attendance record - but to smash it!"
The UNLV Rebels Women's Soccer team currently features seven players that graduated from local high schools. Lead by Head Coach Jenny Ruiz-Williams, who previously both played for UNLV Women's Soccer as well as represented Mexico in the FIFA Women's World Cup, is entering her third season in charge as head coach.
"This is an amazing opportunity for our players to participate in a match like this one. It's incredible the support that is being put into allowing these young women the platform to play in front of this city." said UNLV Head Coach Jenny Williams. "Arizona is a top quality opponent who competes in a strong PAC 12 conference. I think fans will be entertained, young girls will be inspired, and the growth of women's soccer will be showcased at Cashman field. We are so grateful to Lights FC, and their partnership, and look forward to many more opportunities to play at that electric venue."
Lights FC currently sit in playoff position after a strong start to the 2022 season. It next travels to Charleston for an away match this Friday before returning home to Cashman Field for three straight weekend home matches on April 9, 16 & 23 (including the Saturday, April 9th women's soccer doubleheader).
