Rockford Lightning News Release

Rockford, IL- The run for the CBA playoffs continued on Tuesday night, as the Rockford Lightning returned to action for the first time in eight days. Rockford battled Idaho, and earned the hard fought 133-128 victory over the Stampede.

Things didn't look good early on for the Lightning, as Idaho took the first two quarters, and held a 70-61 lead going into the locker room at halftime. Rockford fought back in the second half, winning the third quarter by 14 points, 38-24, and were looking to snag five quarter points in the win, but a three-quarter court shot by Idaho's Kaniel Dickens at the final buzzer salvaged another half quarter point for the Stampede, tying the final quarter at 34-34.

Brian Lubeck led the scoring for the Lightning, with a 12-for-22 performance from the floor, including four three point field goals, to total 29 points in the game. Brant Bailey and Marshall Phillips helped the cause, each netting 25 points in the game. Cordell Henry, who started in place of the suspended Stais Boseman, led the way with 13 assists and along with his 12 points earned a double-double. Lubeck had a double-double of his own, leading the way with 15 rebounds to go along with his point total. Jermaine Tate started his first game in a Lightning uniform, and was big under the basket, blocking four shots on the night. The final shot by Kaniel Dickens was only three of his 26 points, to lead the Stampede in the loss.

"After re-watching the televised game of the last time we played Idaho, and listening to how I was openly ripped by the Idaho commentators about our offense, I stayed up all night using only a pen light to make sure that the game plan was going to turn out Rockford a winner. We stayed in the locker room a little longer this time just like we did in Idaho to make sure that our offense was executed and we were able to get the win," says Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. The gap between Rockford and Gary for the Eastern Conference's final playoff spot was helped by Great Lakes six quarter point victory over the Steelheads on Tuesday night.

Rockford plays again Wednesday night at the Rockford MetroCentre, this time hosting the Great Lakes Storm. There are a lot of events planned for tonight, and if you're one of the first 1,000 fans, you'll take home a Sidney Holmes player poster in the third poster giveaway of the season. All children 12 and under with a paying adult will be half price tickets. To get your tickets for all the exciting Lightning action for the stretch run of the season, give the MetroCentre box office a call at 815-968-5222.
