Springfield Falcons News Release

TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed forwards Darren Reid and Adam Henrich and defenseman Paul Ranger to standard rookie contracts, Executive Vice President & General Manager Jay Feaster announced today. In accordance with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"We are extremely pleased to sign all three of these players," Feaster said. "Paul Ranger is a very mobile defenseman who had an excellent rookie camp for us last season and followed it up with a very strong season in the Ontario Hockey League. We are excited about having him begin his pro career in Springfield next season.

"Darren Reid is a prototypical Tampa Bay Lightning player in that he likes to hit, is very coachable, works hard each and every shift and competes to make a difference for his team. He helped win the WHL Championship for Medicine Hat this year and led them to the Memorial Cup tournament. We are confident that his playing style translates well, not only to the professional game, but more importantly to exactly what we are looking for here in Tampa. Adam Henrich is a big, strong forward with a knack for scoring goals. While Adam needs to improve his overall game and concentrate on his defensive responsibilities, we believe he has the size, speed and talent necessary to become an effective NHL player."

Reid, 21, was an eighth-round selection (256th overall) at the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound native of Lac La Biche, Alberta, was second in scoring for Medicine Hat of the Western Hockey League, recording 33 goals and 81 points in 67 regular season games. The right wing also helped the Tigers win the WHL playoff title and earn a berth in the Memorial Cup with a team-best 13 goals in 20 WHL playoff games. At the Memorial Cup, Reid recorded a goal and an assist in four games as the Tigers fell short of the title.

Henrich, 20, was the Lightning's second round choice (60th overall) at the 2002 Draft, and was second in scoring this season for Brampton of the Ontario Hockey League, recording a team-best 29 goals and 58 points in 65 games. The 6-4, 220-pound left wing, from Thornhill Ontario, added five goals and an assist in 12 OHL playoff games.

Ranger, 19, was chosen by the Lightning in the sixth round (183rd overall) at the 2002 Draft. The 6-2, 210-pound native of Whitby, Ontario, recorded career bests with 12 goals and 43 points in 62 games in his fourth season with Oshawa of the OHL.
