Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA – The Tampa Bay Lightning, National Hockey League affiliate of the Springfield Falcons, today announced that the club has signed defenseman Marc Busenburg (BOO-sehn-berg). As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Busenburg, 26, led Hershey and tied for fourth among AHL defensemen in plus/minus last season at +24. Hershey's second-ranked player in the category finished the season at +10. Busenburg also recorded nine points (2g, 7a) and 27 penalty minutes (PIM) in 64 games with Hershey after attending training camp with the Lightning last season.

The Shrewsbury native registered 11 points (5g, 6a) in 44 games with Hershey in 2002-03. He split time during each of his first two professional seasons of 2000-01 and 2001-02 with Rochester (AHL) and Adirondack (UHL). His 26 points (9g, 17a) in 54 games with Adirondack in 2001-02 ranked second on the club among defensemen.

"Busenburg has played very well in Hershey the last two seasons and is a proven defenseman who will provide us great depth at a critical position," said Falcons president and general manager Bruce Landon.

On January 12, 2002, Busenburg preformed a rare feat by playing in two professional games in one day. The 6'1", 190-pound blue liner played for Rochester in a 3-2 overtime win at Albany in the afternoon. With Adirondack shorthanded due to injuries, Busenburg agreed to skate for the UHL club at the Glens Falls Civic Center that evening, scoring a goal in a 5-4 shootout win over New Haven.

In 141 career AHL games, Busenburg has recorded a +29 plus/minus rating, 23 points (7g, 16a) and 43 PIM.

Busenburg posted 44 points (11g, 33a) in 117 games over four seasons at the University of Connecticut. He was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Tournament Team as a senior in 2000.
