Rockford Lightning News Release

The Rockford Lightning today announced today that Lenny Cooke and Antoine Broxsie has signed for the 2005-06 CBA season, pending League approval.

Cooke, a 6-6 New York City playground legend, comes to the CBA for the first time. Cooke arrives in Rockford after a short season last year with the Long Beach Jam of the ABA. Cooke's season was cut short due to a car accident that left Lenny with a broken leg, which he has now more than recovered from. Prior to his time in the ABA, Cookie led the USBL in scoring (28.7) and steals (3.2) in 2003. Cooke captured the scoring crown on the last day of the season with a 53-point outburst to put him in the league lead. For these accomplishments, Cooke was named the USBL Rookie of the Year and was named to the USBL 1st Team All-League. Lenny is also remembered for his high school AAU duels with current NBA All-Star LeBron James. Some experts rated Lenny as the second best high school player behind James in his high school career.

"Lenny is someone who is going to cause problems in the CBA for a lot of people," said Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. "Lenny is a 6-6 match up problem. He can handle the ball like a guard and can go down to the block and get a bucket at will. He is long and can defend multiple positions. Lenny is someone I have been trying to bring to Rockford for many years and now I am glad to have him on board. We are expecting many great things from Lenny and I know we won't be disappointed with him this year."

Antoine Broxsie is a 6'11 shot blocker who graduated from Oklahoma State in 2002. Antoine recently completed his off-season playing in Mexico for Tuberous Colima. "I watched Broxsie play for Grand Rapids my first year as Head Coach in this league." Said Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. "I think that he can really be player if given an opportunity. He could be the new "pick to click" for vets camp." Lightning season tickets are currently on sale. Ticket packages start as low as $63.00. The Lightning open up their home season on Nov.20 versus the Gary Steelheads at 7:05 PM at the MetroCentre. The Jesse White Tumblers will perform at half time.
