Rockford Lightning News Release
"Close but no cigar" could be the phrase that describes the Rockford Lightning's 2004-2005. After winning a dramatic play-off series versus the Great Lakes Storm, the Lightning lost three games to one versus the Sioux Falls Skyforce. But for some Lightning players, playing for the CBA Championship was only the beginning.
Since playing for the Lightning, reserve power forward Sidney Holmes spent the summer reprising his backup role with the Rome Gladiators of the World Basketball Association. Sidney played key minutes down the stretch and helped the Gladiators win the WBA Championship on July 3. "This is great for Sidney, " said Lightning Coach Chris Daleo. "Sidney needed more playing experience, I am glad that he was productive in Rome."
Lightning All-Star Stais Boseman played point guard for the Dodge City Legend of the United States Basketball League. Boseman's play was instrumental in allowing the Legend to win the USBL Championship on June 27 vs. the Kansas Cagers. Former Lightning power forward John Jackson led the Cagers. "Boseman is a winner," said Daleo. "He has helped the Lightning win games, I'm glad he continues to win."
In Venezuela, two former teammates are now battling each other for the Venezuela Championship. Jermaine Walker leads Marinos de Anzoátegui, while Lightning forward and Wisconsin Stevens Points graduate Brant Bailey leads Guaros de Lara . This is a best of five series that begins July 13 . "I am really happy for both of these guys," said Daleo. "It is good that both are still playing and both are winning."
