Rockford Lightning News Release
Several players from this past season's Rockford Lightning team have moved on to join teams in the Professional Basketball League of Venezuela.
Cordell Henry has begun his overseas adventure with the most success scoring a game high 30 points on a 9-of-18 performance from the field and connecting on 10-of-10 free throws in his first game as a member of the Guaros de Lara. Henry's team currently is tied for third place in the LPB (Liga Profesional de Baloncesto) with a 12-9 record. The 5-foot-11 former Lightning guard played in his first game on Sunday after arriving in Venezuela that day. Henry ranked tenth in the CBA in scoring (16.7 ppg), and finished second in free throw percentage connecting on 139-of-157 free throws (88.5%) last season. Ronnie Fields returned to Venezuela after another successful Lightning season in which he led the CBA in steals (2.3 spg) and ranked second in scoring (22.2 ppg). Fields joined the Trotamundos de Carabobo where he has played two games this season and averages 5.5 points and 1.0 assists for the team that is currently ranked in first place with a 17-6 record.
John Jackson will be joining the Cocodrilos de Caracas shortly after an impressive year with the Lightning that saw the 6-foot-8 forward ranked among league leaders in offensive rebounds (seventh - 2.8 rpg) and field goal percentage (third - 61.2%). Los Cocodrilos currently rank sixth in the LPB with a record of 9-12.
"The Lightning always tries to place as many players as they can overseas or in summer leagues," said Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. "I am glad these three players have continued to find employment in order to keep honing their craft. We wish them the best of luck in Venezuela."
