Lightning Fall Short At Home

March 8, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Rockford Lightning News Release

The Rockford Lightning dropped their fourth home game in the last six on Tuesday night at the MetroCentre to the Yakama Sun Kings by a final of 101-115.

Ronnie Fields led the Lightning with 21 points in the loss. The veteran guard added 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and tied Sidney Holmes for a CBA record 8 steals in the game. Marlon Parmer came off the bench to add 17 points and 5 rebounds while Cordell Henry picked up 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.

The team shot just 19.0% from the field in the fourth quarter as they scored a season low 12 points to close out the game. "We picked a tough quarter to go cold shooting", said Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. "And (Anthony) Goldwire proved why he is an NBA point guard."

The team picked up 1.5 quarter points in the game after a first quarter tie and a third quarter win. Quarter points are big all year round in the CBA, but have become even more critical as the playoffs approach.

The CBA determines seeding for the playoffs based on the quarter point average (QPA) for each team. The top team in each conference will have two home games and one road game as they face each team in the opposite conference. The second place team with the highest QPA will also host two home games in the playoffs while the bottom three teams in the playoffs each get one home game and two road games in the post season.

At this point, the Lightning find themselves in second place in the eastern conference and a total of 5.5-quarter points behind Gary for the top spot in the conference. They are also just 4.5-quarter points behind Yakama for the highest QPA amongst second place teams. The Lightning have played one less game than both the Steelheads and Sun Kings and will have an opportunity to catch both this weekend as they take on the Albany Patroons on Thursday and Friday night in Albany.

Game time for both Thursday and Friday night's games is set for 6:35 P.M. (CST). Fans can follow along with the Lightning on the road by logging onto www.cbahoopsonline.com and clicking on the LIVE webcast option. The team returns home to face the Dakota Wizards on Sunday, March 12th, at the MetroCentre for the final regular season game of the season, and possibly the Lightning's history in Rockford. Tip-off for that game is 3:05 P.M. (CST) with doors opening at 2:00 P.M. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a 6-pack cooler courtesy of PEPSI and HOT 105.9; Quick Change will also perform at halftime. Group tickets can be purchased at a discounted price through the Lightning offices at 815-874-4232. For single game tickets, contact the MetroCentre box office at 815-968-5222 or online at www.centreevents.com.
