Rockford Lightning News Release
Rockford, IL- Pending league approval, the Rockford Lightning have made another addition to their roster. Former Cincinnati Bearcat Jermaine Tate joins the Lightning as another big body for the squad.
Tate comes to the Bolts after recently having played in Chile. While with the Bearcats, the 6-9 forward started 30 of 32 games alongside National Player of the Year Kenyon Martin at the power forward position his senior season of 1999-2000. Tate averaged 4.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game that year, and recorded four blocked shots against UNC-Wilmington in the first round of the NCAA tournament. He also was a starter for part of his junior year for Cincinnati, after sitting out the 1997-98 season, during which he transferred to Cincinnati from Ohio State. When a freshman at Ohio State, he earned team MVP honors, averaging 11.0 points and 6.9 boards per contest. He also led the team in blocked shots (24) and set an Ohio State freshman season record for field goal percentage (.569).
"We are in the playoff hunt and these next three games are huge. Jermaine Tate is just another piece to the puzzle," says Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. The Lightning have also placed forward Jermaine Walker on the injured reserve list, as of February 9.
