Louisville Lightning News Release

The Louisville Lightning have added more star power to the roster for the 2010-2011 season. General manager David Horne announced that the team has agreed to terms with Darren Yeagle for a one-year contract.

Yeagle, a Louisville native, graduated from Indiana University last year after a career filled with accolades. Yeagle was named a 2005 Parade Magazine All-American at Louisville's Trinity High School, as well as Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year and Kentucky's Mr. Soccer during his senior year at Trinity.

He earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America High School Boys All-America honors in 2004. Yeagle also made four appearances, starting twice, for the United States U-20 National Team. He redshirted his freshman year at Indiana University, but was named one of the Top 100 Freshmen to Watch by College Soccer News.

As a redshirt freshman in 2006, he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year at Indiana, as well as Second Team All-Big Ten. Yeagle led the Hoosiers as a freshman with seven goals, including four game-winning strikes. One of his game winners beat Penn State in the 2006 Big Ten Championship Game.

Yeagle made just seven appearances with the Hoosiers in 2007 after suffering a knee injury. He made his first start as a sophomore in his hometown against the University of Louisville. Yeagle was again hampered in 2008 as a junior, appearing in only ten games with the Hoosiers.

The talented forward returned last year as a senior, appearing in 21 games and starting twelve times for Indiana. His biggest game came against the sixth-ranked Louisville Cardinals in the NCAA tournament, where Yeagle scored both goals en route to a 2-0 win over his hometown squad.

Yeagle now joins the Lightning, where he'll have a chance to impress his hometown fans once again. "Bringing Darren in is very exciting for us," said Lightning general manager David Horne. "His experience and resume speaks for itself and he knows how to be effective in the offensive third. He has been a standout player his whole career and will be a star for the Lightning as well."

Yeagle is expected to make his Lightning debut Friday night in the team's pink versus yellow 'Kick Cancer' exhibition. For more information on that match, check out:
