Louisville Lightning News Release
The Louisville Lightning have re-signed a key component of their defense for the upcoming season. Adam Boyer, a pivotal part of the squad last season and an All-PASL Honorable Mention Defender, has agreed to a new, one-year deal with the Lightning this week.
The Lightning play their first exhibition match of the preseason Friday night, and Adam Boyer will be in uniform. The defender agreed to a new deal with the team this week. Boyer played in fifteen games for the team last season, finishing fifth on the team in scoring with ten goals. He also contributed ten assists to finish fourth on the squad with twenty points on the season.
Boyer was a four-year letter-winner at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky before joining the Lightning. He is currently an assistant men's coach at his alma mater, and also coaches the U-17 boys' team at Central Kentucky Soccer Club.
At Centre, Boyer was named an NSCAA/adidas All-American and Academic All-American in 2008. He was a two-time All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team honoree, and captained the Centre Colonels in three of his four seasons with the school. He was also honored three times as a NSCAA/adidas South Central Regional All-American.
Boyer earned a reputation for his fitness and endurance at Centre, playing in all 74 matches during his four years at Centre. He also became a scoring threat despite playing as a defender, netting nine goals and twelve assists with the Colonels. It's a trait that has carried over into his Lightning tenure. His efforts turned heads in the league, as he was selected to the All-PASL Honorable Mention team.
"Adam is a crucial part of our defense," said Lightning coach Ted Nichols. "But we know he can score if given the opportunity. He's a very versatile player and a difficult matchup for opponents," he stated.
In addition to bolstering the Lightning defense this season, Boyer will have another duty: team blogger. He'll be blogging throughout the season about life as a professional soccer player, and he's already posted his first entry. You can read Adam's thoughts so far this preseason at:
