Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- With exactly one month remaining until the drop of the puck for the 2005-2006 Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs season, the team today announced two re-signings which increase the roster to ten players for the upcoming year. Defenseman Quade Lightbody and forward Shane Palahicky (pal-uh-HICK-ee) have been inked for the 2005-2006 season which will begin on October 21st at the CenturyTel Center.

Lightbody, 30, will enter his third season with the Mudbugs after appearing in all but one game for the team last year. He recorded 12 assists and 118 penalty minutes in his 59 games while continuing his solid and physical defensive play. The 6'2" 215-pound blueliner has played in 123 games for the Mudbugs since joining the team in 2003 from Kalamazoo of the UHL. Lightbody, a native of Port Elgin, Ontario, will enter his fifth season of pro hockey.

Palahicky, a 6'0" 205-pound winger, scored some of the most memorable goals of last year for the Mudbugs including his double overtime game-winner in Game Five of the Northern Conference Semifinals against Wichita. Despite playing in just 37 regular season games and battling injuries, Palahicky scored six goals and eight assists and was second on the team in playoff goals with three. The Maple Ridge, BC native spent one season with Alaska of the ECHL prior to joining the Mudbugs and graduated from Cornell University in 2003.

"These are two players who play very valuable roles for us," said Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "Quade is a leader and he's proven it on and off the ice for two years now and Shane really stepped up in the playoffs last year and provides some grit and depth on our forward lines. With these signings, we've added plenty of toughness and two players that you can count on in big games."

In addition to Lightbody and Palahicky, the Mudbugs have signed forwards Chris Brassard, Dan Wildfong, Chad Spurr, Scott Sheppard, defensemen Craig Minard, Jason Basile, Dale Lupul, and goaltender Ken Carroll for the 2005-2006 season.

The 2005-2006 Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs season will begin on October 21st at the CenturyTel Center against the Memphis RiverKings.
