
SteelHounds Sign Four Defensemen

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO -Youngstown SteelHounds Head Coach, J F Laforest, announced today that the team has signed four defenseman and that the quartette will all participate in SteelHounds training camp on October 10th. Signed to contracts were Kevin Harris, Marc-Andre Roy (pronounced WAH), R.C. Lyke and Nick Cammarata.
Harris, 23, played for four teams last season in his rookie campaign. The 5-11, 210-pound defenseman dressed in a total of 45 games splitting time between Topeka and Oklahoma City of the Central Hockey League (CHL) and Gwinnett and Dayton or the ECHL scoring three goals with eight assists and 18 penalty minutes. His longest tenure came with Topeka where he notched six points (2-4 -6) in 21 games. The Altona, Manitoba native's pre-professional career consisted of 37 games at the University of Regina (2003-04) and 296 games in the Western Hockey League (WHL) playing major junior for both Brandon and Prince Albert. His career WHL numbers included 44 goals and 128 helpers.
Lyke, 27, dressed for three different CHL teams last season (Austin, Fort Worth and Odessa) totaling six points (2-4 -6) and 103 penalty minutes in 54 games. The 6-0, 205-pound native of Poughkeepsie, New York has also dressed professionally for three United Hockey League teams (2002-04); Rockford (one goal, four assists), Adirondack (seven goals, seven assists) and Elmira (two goals, 10 assists). Collegiately, the 6-1, 205-pound defenseman played 90 games for Mercyhurst College between 1999-2002 totaling four goals and 22 assists.
Cammarata, 25, did not play professionally last season but did dress in 30 games during the 2003-04 season seeing action in the ECHL, Italy and the WHA2. The Canton, Massachusetts native's best stretch came with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL where he notched two points (1-1 -2) and seven penalty minutes in 10 games. The 6-1, 205-pound defenseman's most impressive offensive run came with the Orlando Seals (WHA2) where he put up a goal and three helpers in five games.
Roy, 21, has played 245 games in the Quebec Major Junior League (QMJHL) seeing action with both Rouyn-Noranda and Chicoutimi over the past four seasons scoring 11 goals with 43 assists and 251 penalty minutes. In his career, the 6-1, 194-pound native of Sherbrooke, Quebec has dressed in 43 playoff games scoring three goals with eight assists. Roy will attend the AHL training camp of the Cleveland Barons beginning September 26th.
The signings bring the SteelHounds roster to 16 players with opening day set for October 21st in Tulsa. The team's home opener is slated for November 4th when they host the Oklahoma City Blazers. For ticket information, contact the SteelHounds at (330) 747-PUCK (7825).
