Light Lifts Lancers To Another Last-Minute Win

Omaha Lancers News Release
KEARNEY, NE - For the second time in as many nights, the Omaha Lancers prevailed over the Tri-City Storm thanks to a game-winning goal scored in the final minute of regulation, as Omaha leveraged a Connor Light tally with just 28 seconds remaining to defeat Tri-City 2-1 on Saturday at Viaero Event Center in Kearney, Nebraska. With the win, the Lancers improved to 17-3-2 overall this season and with 36 points, remain alone atop the Western Conference and overall USHL standings.
Despite outshooting their opponents 12-5 in the opening period, the Lancers trailed after 20 minutes thanks to a top-shelf tapper from Garrett Gamez at 4:15 that delivered the Storm a 1-0 lead on their very first shot-on-goal of the game. After compiling an impressive glut of scoring chances early in the second period, Omaha finally scraped together a game-tying goal at 12:58 when Jake Randolph and Steven Johnson set up a Tyler Vesel rebound score on the power-play, the Nebraska-Omaha recruit's league-leading 19th goal of the season.
In a playoff-esque, grind-it-out third period, both teams traded grade-A scoring chances until the Lancers captured lightning in a bottle for the second straight night, this time thanks to a future Union College Dutchman, Sudbury, Massachusetts' own Light, who potted his second of the season on a low-glove wrister from the high slot, assisted by Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson to secure the victory and the weekend sweep for Omaha.
Next up for the Lancers, it's a two-game weekend homestand vs. the Fargo Force beginning on Friday at Ralston Arena with the opening faceoff set for 7:05 pm. Full coverage of Friday's game begins at 6:50 pm with the "Valpak Pregame Show" on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL, with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
In 2013-14, the five-time Anderson Cup and seven-time Clark Cup Champion Omaha Lancers drop the puck on their 28th season in the USHL.
