Lexington Sporting Club News Release
Lexington Sporting Club suffered a 5-1 defeat at Toyota Stadium in Georgetown, Ky., against Tormenta FC, marking the second consecutive loss for the club.
The loss brings the club's record to 3-7-5 (14 points), standing at 10th in the league standings. The result saw Tormenta FC improve to 5-7-3 (18 points), taking 9th in the league.
Lexington SC entered the match on the back of a 3-2 loss against Forward Madison FC that ended the club's five-match unbeaten run.
Things would get off to a rocky start when, three minutes into the match, lightning struck in the area, leading to a weather delay that ultimately lasted an hour and 55 minutes.
Unfortunately for Lexington SC, a foul prior to the delay came back to bite the club when Tormenta was awarded a free kick to begin the restart. The visitors promptly sent it into the back of the net for goal number one.
Lexington SC continued applying pressure and fighting with numerous key shot attempts, but it would again be Tormenta who would score next in the 27th minute after a corner kick.
Coming out of the halftime break, things didn't get any better for Lexington when Kazaiah Sterling found the net in the 48th minute. Tormenta scored a fourth in the 60th minute after an own goal by Kaelon Fox.
The home side finally found the back of the net in the 74th minute thanks to club-leading scorer Nico Brown, but the celebration was short lived when Tormenta scored the final goal of the match in the 78th minute.
The full-time whistle would officially see a 5-1 finish in favor of the visitors, the largest defeat in Lexington SC history.
Lexington SC controlled the possession in the match, holding the ball 62.4% of the time as well as winning in expected goals, seeing a 2.33 to 1.01 advantage.
Next up for Lexington SC is a road trip to North Carolina to face off against the Charlotte Independence on July 9. The club will remain on the road on July 15 to face off against CV Fuego FC before returning home on July 22 to host Union Omaha for the first time in club history.
