Lexington Sporting Club suffered a 2-0 defeat at Werner Park against Union Omaha on Wednesday. The result was the first shutout defeat for the club since April 22.

The loss brings the club's record to 4-10-6 (18 points), standing at 10th in the league standings. The result also saw Omaha improve to 8-5-7 (31 points), residing in 4th in the league.

Lexington SC entered the match on the back of a 2-2 draw at home against Richmond Kickers, which marked the second consecutive point-bearing match for the club.

Omaha controlled the pace early in the match despite Lexington's best efforts, something that would ultimately prove fruitful in the 24th minute when Steevan Dos Santos headed the ball into the net on a corner kick to score the go-ahead goal.

Lexington continued to fight to find an equalizer and regain control, but the halftime whistle soon sent both clubs into the locker room to regroup for the second half.

The goal would not be the only highlight of the half however, as Lexington SC defender Kaelon Fox made a thrilling leaping save to prevent a second Owl goal.

In that second half it was once again Omaha who found the net first when JP Scearce scored one in the 52nd minute.

Lexington SC very nearly found a goal of its own on multiple occasions, most notably when a mad scramble in the box saw Omaha goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu unable to get ahold of the ball, but a scoring play was simply not in the cards for the visitors.

The full-time whistle soon came and went, ending a brief unbeaten run for the visitors.

Lexington controlled the possession in the match, holding the ball 54.4% of the time while also winning in expected goals, seeing a 1.29 to 1.05 advantage.

Next up for Lexington SC the club will face NC Hailstorm FC away on Saturday to wrap up a busy two-match week.. The boys in green will then return home on August 12 in a revenge match against CV Fuego FC.
