
Lexington Legends Announce the Team's Athletic Trainer in Continued Partnership with Lexington Clinic

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) -With the Battle of the Bourbon Trail slated to begin in Lexington on Saturday, August 1st, the Lexington Legends are excited to announce and highlight their continued partnership with Lexington Clinic, both on and off the field.
Mike Smith, Athletic Trainer at Lexington Clinic Orthopedics- Sports Medicine, has signed on to be the Lexington-based athletic trainer for the Battle of the Bourbon Trail. Originally from Canton, Ohio, Smith received his undergraduate degree from Mount Union University and his master's degree from Indiana State University. Smith is no stranger to the Lexington Legends organization, as he was the Athletic Trainer for the Legends in 2002, as well as in 2005-2006. Smith has also spent time with the New York Penn League and the Carolina League, while associated with the Houston Astros organization, where he was the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the entire Astros organization from 2007-2009. Smith has been with Lexington Clinic Orthopedics - Sports Medicine since 2016.
The Lexington Legends and Lexington Clinic have been partners since the inception of the Legends in 2001. This year being no different, Lexington Clinic Orthopedics - Sports Medicine will be the official team doctors, led by Dr. Ben Kibler, who has been the Legends' team doctor since 2001. He is joined by Dr. W. Jeffrey Grantham, Dr. David Dome and Dr. Peter Hester, all of whom will be available to the Legends and Leyendas players.
"Mike is a longtime friend of the Legends and personally. It is a comforting feeling to know that he will be our athletic trainer this season. We're going to be providing a high level of baseball and that means providing a high level of athletic training and medical care," says Andy Shea, Legends President and CEO. "Our longstanding partnership with Lexington Clinic is second to none and we're proud to continue that during the Battle of the Bourbon Trail."
The Battle of the Bourbon Trail will bring an exciting level of baseball to both Lexington and Florence. The four teams will be made up of former Major Leaguers, Minor Leaguers, amateur players and college players. Each organization will field two teams, allowing for home games at both locations every Wednesday - Sunday, beginning August 1st. The season will consist of 36 games at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Tryouts for the two Legends' teams will be held at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on July 22nd at 8a.m.
