Lexington Legends announce intent to sell

LEXINGTON - The Lexington Legends Professional Baseball Company announced today that their ownership have reached agreement and have signed a Letter of Intent to sell the Lexington Legends South Atlantic League franchise to Fun For Kentucky Entertainment Group, LLC, headed by David Hersh of Tampa, Florida. Fun for Kentucky Entertainment Group, LLC is affiliated with Fun Entertainment Group, LLC who is in the process of acquiring the Pacific Coast League Triple A Tacoma Rainiers. Closing will occur immediately following the current baseball season. All agreements are subject to approval by Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball and the South Atlantic League governing bodies.

Lexington Legends founder, President and CEO Alan Stein said, "We are elated with being associated with David Hersh's group. His decades of experience in the Minor League Baseball business will bring new energy and excitement to Lexington as we continue to provide first-class, family entertainment and great baseball to all our wonderful fans. Obviously, our goal of being a leader in the industry has come to fruition and I am thrilled for our original ownership group, especially Brad Redmon, to be able to be rewarded for their successful commitment to bring professional baseball to Lexington and to set the table for many years to come."

David Hersh, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native is a former general manager and owner of several minor league teams. "The Lexington Legends have been performing to the highest standard of Minor League Baseball. Our goal is to bring to the people of Lexington professional baseball and family fun that is appropriate for the level of support they have given to the Legends", Hersh said

Hersh also announced that Legends President Alan Stein has agreed to a multi-year employment agreement to operate the Lexington Legends for Fun for Kentucky Entertainment Group, LLC as well as serving as an officer and consultant for the new company. "We are elated with the current operation in Lexington. Our company believes in putting fans first. It would be foolish to acquire the Lexington Legends without having the vision, leadership, management skill and passion of Alan Stein at the helm."

Hersh has the unusual distinction of being involved at every level of professional baseball, including the New York Yankees at the Major League Level. His teams have won championships in four different leagues and have set three attendance records. Most recently, Mr. Hersh owned the Double-A Diamond Jaxx in Jackson, Tennessee. He was named the 1999 Southern League Executive of the Year and the 1978 Sporting News Class-A Executive of the Year. In 1978, David Hersh became the youngest owner of a professional team when he purchased the Portland Beavers of the Pacific Coast League.

Opening day for the Lexington Legends, the Single A affiliate of the Houston Astros is only 63 days away, first pitch at 6:35 pm on April 8th against the visiting Hagerstown Suns.
