WENATCHEE, Wash. - Ben Carey (Centennial, Colo.) is making goal-scoring look easy, and Greg Lewis (Mars, Pa.) is winning again. The duo, which led the Wenatchee Wild to a pair of 2-game sweeps last week over the Alaska Avalanche and Fairbanks Ice Dogs, was named the first two stars of the week Monday by the NAHL.

Lewis, the first star, went 2-0 with a pair of shutouts last week. He led the Wild to a 7-0 victory in the second of two games against the Alaska Avalanche, stopping all 29 shots he faced. The win was Lewis' first of the season after he opened up the campaign 0-4-1 despite giving up just nine goals in those five games.

Lewis, 20, followed up his shutout performance against the Avs with another shutout, this time in a 3-0 win over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Saturday to give Wenatchee its fourth straight victory. Lewis absorbed all 22 of the Ice Dogs' shots in the win.

"Greg has played as good as we could have asked this season," said Wild head coach John Becanic, "And it was nice to see him finally get those wins. He has always been a confident goalie, but this was important for all of us that we had a week like we did."

Lewis' statistics are bested by only one other goaltender in the league, his teammate, Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas). Lewis owns a 1.29 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage, both of which are the second-best in the NAHL behind Nichols. Lewis' two shutouts also tie him for the second most in the league.

Carey, the second star, scored six goals with two assists (8 points) in four games last week. He scored five goals and added two assists in two wins against Alaska before scoring a goal Saturday to help the Wild sweep the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

Carey leads the Wild with 10 goals, 16 points and five power-play goals. Committed to Air Force Academy, Carey's 16 points tie him for 10th most in the league while his five power-play markers tie him for third most.

"[Ben] is getting better at not only shooting more but, more importantly, hitting the net," Becanic said. "He is earning his goals."

The Wild's 6-game Alaskan road trip will come to a close this weekend (Nov. 4-5) with a pair of games against the Alaska Avalanche. Both games are scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. (PDT). Fans can listen to all of the action live on 560 AM KPQ. For a small fee, all of the Wild's games can also be viewed online at www.FASTHockey.com.
