October 31, 2011 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release
An anticipated NAHL South Division showdown proved to be anticlimactic as Amarillo dominated Topeka 7-1 on Sunday in the Texas panhandle.
The Bulls controlled the play from the outset, finally breaking through with an Omar Mullan goal at 12:32, followed by a Mike Davis goal :22 seconds later. The Bulls lead jumped to 3-0 on a poor turnover that sent Brooks Behling in alone for a shorthanded tally at 17:03. The Bulls outshot Topeka 19-5 and led 3-0 after 1.
In the second period, Amarillo's T.J. Sarcona buried a power play goal at 10:19 and Matt Johnson snapped a wrister high on the blocker side at 13:58 and the Bulls led 5-0.
Brandon Reagan had played the first 40 minutes in goal, andJosh Hillegas came in to start the third. The 'Runners appeared to have some renewed vigor in the third, but a Luke Jenkins goal at 2:24 followed by a second goal from Behling at 9:20 put the game even further out of reach. The lone offensive highlight for Topeka came at 12:22 when Brian Christie roofed an unassisted goal to get the 'Runners on the board. Defensively, both Reagan and Hillegas had made some impressive stops but it was clearly not Topeka's day at all.
Topeka (10-6-2) will complete their ten game road trip next weekend in Springfield (7-9-0) on Friday and Saturday. The 'Runners begin a six game homestand the following weekend.
