Kansas City Comets News Release
MILWAUKEE - Following a bye during Round One of the Ron Newman Cup Playoffs, the Missouri Comets earned a dominating 10-5 victory over longtime rival Milwaukee Wave in front of 2,717 fans at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena and are one win away from the Eastern Conference Championship.
Reigning MASL Most Valuable Player Leo Gibson was named Borden Man of the Match after recording a total of six points on five goals and one assist.
Games two and three (if necessary) will be played this Sunday at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The match, which is scheduled to kick off at 5:05 p.m. CT will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Only four minutes into the match, Milwaukee's Sean Totsch scored the first goal of the night on a power play when he received a ball from Max Ferdinand and tapped it in past goalkeeper Boris Pardo.
However, Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team scored four consecutive goals off the boots of Gibson (2), Ramone Palmer, and Max Touloute to end the first to end the first period 4-1.
Gibson added another for Missouri early in the second before Milwaukee's scoring leader scored his first two tallies of the night in a three-minute span to end the half 5-3 in favor of the Central Division Champions.
The third stanza was full of action as both teams combined for a total of six goals starting with Touloute's second of the night at the 1:26 mark and followed by John Sosa's only goal of the evening to extend the lead to four but the Wave got back on the board with back-to-back tallies once again. Comets' Bryan Perez ended the quarter with a goal of his own to make it 9-5 after three.
Playing most of the final period with a sixth attacker on the field was not enough for Coach Giuliano Oliviero's side as Gibson found the top left corner with a volley assisted by Sosa to end the match 10-5.
