Lemurs Comeback Falls Short

Newark, NJ - One six-run, fourth-inning rally was enough for the Newark Bears to beat the Laredo Lemurs 6-4 on Monday night in Newark, New Jersey.

1B Ernie Banks Jr. started the scoring with a single that brought home LF Derrick Pyles. Pyles was 3-for-4. C Kyle Lafrenz followed Banks with an RBI double and DH Mike Gedman singled in Lafrenz in the next at bat. 2B Richard Arias capped off the rally with a three-run homerun.

For the Lemurs, RF Harrison Kain posted a team-high three hits and three other batters - C Brian Peterson, CF Stephen Douglas and 2B Mike Provencher each had two-hit games. Eight of the nine batters in the Laredo order had at least one hit.

The Lemurs left 11 runners on base, with five left at third base, and 10 left in scoring position. The game ended with Stephen Douglas getting picked off at second base with the tying run at first.

Starter Omar Javier was tabbed as the winner as he allowed just one run (unearned) on seven hits in five innings of work. Reliever Jorge Vasquez was credited with the save.

Justin Garcia took the loss, going seven, giving up six runs, on 12 hits, with no walks, and three strikeouts. All six runs that Garcia gave up came in the fourth inning.

The loss puts the Lemurs in a tie for first place in the American Association South Division with the Amarillo Sox. The Lemurs have seven games left in the season, with four coming against the New Jersey Jackals and three against the Quebec City Capitals.
