Sioux City Explorers News Release
El Paso, TX-----The Explorers defeated El Paso 8-7 here Sunday to win their second straight for the first time since late July. It was always the first time since the first of July that the Explorers had won a series.
Sioux took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI double by Peter Barrows, his sixth RBI in the series and then Luke Murton drove in the second run with a single.
El Paso came back and scored a run in the bottom of the first and then tied the game in the third inning.
The Explorers took the lead for good in the fourth inning scoring four runs and led 6-2. Two of those runs came on a bases loaded single by Leugim Barroso. The Explorers scored two more runs in the fifth inning on a double by Elizer Mesa, his third hit of the game and the final run came on a sacrifice fly RBI by Anthony Kaskadden. That gave the Explorers an 8-2 lead.
However, El Paso would score four in the fifth on five consecutive base hits and then pull within a run at 8-7 with a tally in the seventh.
With the Explorers leading 8-7 going into the ninth inning, relief pitcher Jimmer Kennedy gave up a couple of hits, but with two outs and runners at first and second he struck out Rolando Petit to end the game and pick up his fifth save of the season.
Richard Salazar pitched five innings to notch his ninth victory of the season.
The Explorers will have Monday off before beginning a series on Tuesday at 7:05pm at Lewis and Clark Park against Sioux Falls.
