Lehner Helps Lift B-Sens Past Pens, 3-0

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The B-Sens welcomed the league-leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins into town Friday night for the eighth and final meeting of the regular season between the East Division foes. The Pens made the trip up I-81 seeking win number 52 on the season, which would set a new team record for most wins in a season. In the end, the Pens would have to wait one more day as the B-Sens shut down Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3-0.
Robin Lehner returned to the net for the first time since March 9. The rookie netminder made 31 saves to improve to 8-7-2 and earned his third shutout of the season.
Although the Pens outshot the B-Sens 12-4 in the opening period, the teams would head off the ice for the first intermission scoreless.
The B-Sens turned the tables in the second however, outshooting the Penguins 13-5 and burying a pair of goals in the process.
Andre Benoit opened the scoring at 14:18 of the second on a power play, beating Wilkes-Barre's John Curry for his ninth goal of the season. Jim O'Brien and Derek Smith each earned credit for assists on Benoit's power play marker.
O'Brien notched a goal of his own 2:31 later off a feed from Roman Wick who had just been reassigned to Binghamton by Ottawa earlier in the day. Corey Locke also earned an assist on the play, his team and league leading 62nd of the season.
Ryan Keller added to his team lead in goals as he found the back of the net for his 30th of the season at 4:29 of the third to push the B-Sens ahead of the Pens 3-0. O'Brien earned the lone assist on the captain's tally for his third point of the game.
In the meantime Robin Lehner stifled the Pens, stopping the remaining 14 shots Wilkes-Barre could muster to help Binghamton maintain their three goal advantage and earn the eventual win.
The B-Sens will host the Providence Bruins tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $17.75 for side seating, $16.75 for end seating.
