Lehigh Valley's Scott Laughton Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week
October 20, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Lehigh Valley Phantoms center Scott Laughton has been selected as theCCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 19, 2014.
Laughton scored four goals in two games for the Phantoms last week, including two power-play tallies and a shorthanded marker.
In Lehigh Valley's home opener on Friday night vs. Adirondack, Laughton scored the first regular-season goal in PPL Center history at 11:59 of the first period before tying the game at 2-2 late in the second with another power-play goal. The Phantoms would go on to a 4-3 overtime victory, the 700th win in franchise history.
In the back end of the home-and-home set with the Flames on Saturday night, Laughton scored once shorthanded and once at even strength to erase an early 2-0 deficit before Lehigh Valley eventually fell to Adirondack, 4-2.
A first-round pick (20th overall) by Philadelphia in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Laughton has totaled four goals in three games with Lehigh Valley to begin his rookie season, good for second in the league. The 20-year-old native of Oakville, Ont., made his professional debut with the Flyers in January 2013, then skated in six AHL games with the Adirondack Phantoms at the end of that season, posting one goal and two assists. Laughton was a First Team OHL All-Star in 2013-14, notching 40 goals and 47 assists for 87 points in 54 games for Oshawa.
In recognition of his achievement, Laughton will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Phantoms home game.
