Lehigh Valley Takes on Defending Champs for a Second Time

Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release

Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (6-5) will be making their second trip to Georgia this month when they travel to Albany to take on the defending PIFL champion Panthers (6-4) for the second time this season. The last time the two teams met the Steelhawks were the victors in a close game that ended with a score of 49-47. The Steelhawks and Panthers will play this Saturday night with a 7:30 pm EST kickoff.

Lehigh Valley needs to bounce back after last week's loss as they continue their journey for a PIFL championship. The Steelhawks need to take down the defending champs to clinch a playoff berth. The win would also give the team their first winning record in their short existence. But they will be taking on a tough opponent in the Panthers.

Albany has a current two game win streak going into the game. They are led by QB Cecil Lester (2,676 yds, 47 tds), in the last meeting between the teams he threw four touchdowns and had 225 yards through the air. His favorite targets that night were receivers Johnny Lester - who had seven catches for 62 yards, and Antwone Savage - he hauled in five catches for 94 yards, both caught touchdowns on the night as well. The Steelhawk defense will have to contain the run game. In the previous matchup FB Trae Ivory had a big game, getting into the end zone twice on 6 carries.

The Steelhawks will be led once again by star QB Adam Bednarik (47 tds, 2,552 yds, 70% completion rate). In their first matchup, Bednarik threw for four touchdowns and 238 yards, finding both WRs Tyrone Collins (76 catches for 814 tds, 14 tds) and Tom Gilson (87 catches for 867 yds, 19 tds) for two passing touchdowns and a combined 165 yards.

It is still possible for the Steelhawks to host a first round playoff game, with a LV win and a Richmond loss, the Hawks will clinch the #2 seed. Should these things happen; Steelhawks front office personnel will notify all season and single game ticket holders with information for purchasing playoff tickets. Fans interested in watching the game this Saturday can log onto the PIFL website (www.proifl.com) and click on the Albany Panthers UStream link on the front page.
