Alabama Hammers News Release
KNOXVILLE - A monster defensive showing by Alabama Hammers veteran lineman Benji McDowell during Saturday's 45-29 victory over Richmond didn't go unnoticed by the Professional Indoor Football League.
McDowell (6-foot-2, 285 pounds) had four sacks and forced a pair of fumbles in earning co-Defensive Player of the Week honors along with defensive back Antwontis Cutts of Albany. McDowell - out of Lenoir-Rhyne - upped his sack total to 11.0 to take over the team lead just ahead teammate Jake Trantin's 10 and eight from Darian Barnes.
The Hammers locked up a playoff spot and a July 1 home game with the victory over the Raiders and now head to Knoxville for a 6 p.m. central kickoff on Saturday with their sights set on wrapping up the No. 1 seed for the PIFL playoffs.
