Alabama Hammers News Release
Utilizing a swarming, hard-hitting defense and last minute determination by the offense, the Alabama Hammers defeated the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks 41-39 Saturday night in game 11 of the 2015 Professional Indoor Football League season. After taking the game's final lead on a 34-yard TD pass from Garrett Sutphen to Mico McSwain with 52-seconds remaining, the stingy Hammers' defense held the Steelhawks in their last gasp effort for victory and forced the visiting Steelhawks to try a 34-yard field goal with 15-seconds remaining. The Pat Clarke kick was wide right giving the Hammers its fourth victory (4-7) of the season while Lehigh Valley fell to 6-5.
Trailing 18-14 at halftime, the Hammers scored four touchdowns in the second half of action on the Huntsville Hospital/TOC Sports Field at the Von Braun Center. McSwain and Maurice Dupree had two TD catches each from Sutphen (23-31-330). McSwain scores came from 8 and 34 yards while Dupree took in his scores of 26 and 23 yards. McSwain totaled 214 yards on 14 catches.
The Hammers' defense was led by Desmond Raiford with eight tackles and Keon Lattimore and Svante Davenport with seven tackles each. Lattimore and Johnnie Dixon had interceptions for the Hammers' defense, which put constant pressure on the Steelhawks quarterback Shane McSweeny (16-34-161) who was forced to run the ball 13 times for 76-yards.
The Alabama Hammers complete its 2015 schedule at home on Saturday, June 20, against the league leading Columbus Lions (8-2).
