Lexington Legends News Release
LEXINGTON, Ky. â The Lexington Legends announced today that they will open up the 2005 season at Applebee's Park. The Legends will host the Delmarva Shorebirds, an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, on Thursday, April 7th at 6:35pm. The Legends are opening at home for the third consecutive season and it's the second time in three years that the Legends have opened the season against the Shorebirds.
"Opening night is always a lot of fun for our fans and next year promises to be the best ever", said Legends President and CEO Alan Stein. "The Legends will be very good and Delmarva always fields very competitive teams so the game should be very exciting", Stein added.
Stein has particular interest in opening day. Each year, he's promised a win or face a penalty of the most personal kind ranging from eating cat food to shaving his head. So what's next? "I'm not sure what the 2005 guarantee will be", Stein said. "Maybe to change my luck, I'll let the fans decide".
The Legends are hoping to break a four game losing streak in season openers. In 2001, Lexington was shutout 2-0 by Charleston, West Virginia. The 4-2 loss to Delmarva in 2002 was followed by 9-5 loss in 2003 to Lakewood. Last season Lexington stumbled against Hagerstown, 6-3.
Lexington is 1-3 in home openers with the only win coming against Greensboro (15-1) in the first ever game at Applebee's Park in 2001. The complete 2005 schedule and some featured promotional events will be released on Monday, November 1st.
