Jay Austin's bases-clearing triple was the key hit in a five-run rally in the fourth inning as the Lexington Legends defeated the Rome Braves in a rain-shortened game 9-4 at Applebee's Park Saturday night.

Austin, who has 11 hits in his last 21 at bats, drove a ball to deep right center field, scoring Albert Cartwright, Steve Brown and Jorge De Leon, all of whom had walked. The hit brought Lexington from a 4-3 deficit into a 6-4 lead.

The Legends had taken an early lead by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Austin and Eric Suttle singled and advanced to second and third on Ebert Rosario's ground out. Brian Pellegrini walked to load the bases. Michael Diaz' single scored Austin, and Suttle came home when center fielder Chris Shehan bobbled the ball for an error. Cartwright walked to load the bases again, and Freddie Hernandez grounded out, scoring Pellegrini from third to give Lexington a 3-0 lead.

Rome came back when Shehan hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and the Braves took the lead in the third. Shayne Moody, Yoel Campusano and Braden Schlehuber singled to load the bases. Matt Kennelly's double scored Moody and Campusano, but Schlehuber was cut down at the plate on a throw by Austin with a relay from shortstop De Leon. Rome's 4-3 lead was wiped out by the Legends' five-run outburst in the fourth. Lexington added one more in the fifth before rain caused the game to be called. An earlier rain had caused the start of the game to be delayed an hour and 31 minutes.

Lexington's Robert Bono picked up his eighth win against four losses. Rome starter Paul Clemens (4-4) was the losing pitcher.
