Lexington Legends' outfielder J.D. Martinez has won a "MILBY" award from Minor League Baseball after being named best hitter in Class A for 2010 in online voting by fans. Martinez, who led the South Atlantic League in hitting at .362, was one of six Class A nominees for the award.

Martinez received 29% of the votes to finish ahead of Nick Franklin of Clinton (Midwest League), 22%; Mike Trout, Cedar Rapids (Midwest), 22%; Jared Clark, Asheville (SAL) 18%; Khristopher Davis, Wisconsin (3%); Jean Sigura, Cedar Rapids, 2%.

"J.D. had a memorable season for the Legends, and it's great that the fans supported him with their votes," said Legends General Manager Andy Shea. "He's very deserving of this award."

Martinez hit 15 home runs and drove in 64 runs in 88 games for Lexington before being promoted to double-A Corpus Christi July 15. In addition to posting the league's top batting average, Martinez led the SAL in on-base percentage at .433 and slugging percentage at .598. At the time of his promotion, he was also leading the league in hits, doubles, extra-base hits, runs scored and total bases.

He was named SAL Most Valuable Player and Minor League Player of the Year in the Houston Astros' organization.
