Lexington starter Anthony Bello scattered six hits in seven strong innings to lead the Legends to a 3-1 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs in South Atlantic League action Tuesday night in front of 3,029 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

With the victory, Lexington improves to 5-14 in the season's second half and 26-62 overall while Charleston falls to 7-11 since the All-Star break and 52-36 overall.

Lexington pitching retired the final 13 Charleston batters in the game, as Charleston was able to collect only one hit after the fourth inning.

Bello, in improving his season's mark to 3-5, went seven complete frames and allowed one run while walking one and striking out one. Reliever Jordan Powell tossed the eighth and ninth innings, and fanned two as he earned his fourth save of the season.

The Legends started the scoring in the first after Matthew Cusick tripled to the right field corner and then scored on Craig Corrado's ground out to second, giving Lexington an early 1-0 lead.

Charleston knotted the score at 1-1 in the fourth when Justin Snyder bunted safely up the first base line, advanced to second on a walk and scored on Brandon Laird's RBI double to left.

Lexington recaptured the lead at 2-1 in the fifth when Cat Everett doubled to right and scored on Brandon Barnes' RBI single to left.

The Legends extended the lead to 3-1 in the seventh on a perfectly executed squeeze play. Steve Brown walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on Jonathan Fixler's sacrifice bunt and scored on the squeeze play with Everett at the plate.

Charleston's loss overshadowed the pitching performance of starter Noel Castillo, who threw 7.2 stanzas and allowed three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out five. Reliever Ryan Zink finished for the RiverDogs and punched out two Legends in his 1.1 innings of work.

The Legends helped themselves defensively as they recorded three double plays after having four on Monday night.

Of Lexington's six hits, Cusick and Eric Taylor each had a pair while Taylor Holiday paced the RiverDogs with two of their six knocks.

The loss was the first of the year for Charleston against Northern Division teams after having won their first nine. The RiverDogs beat Lexington on Monday, and swept two four-game series against the Hickory Crawdads in May.

Game 3 of this four-game block is set for a rare 12:05 p.m. first pitch with righty Dellin Betances (4-3, 4.05 ERA) taking the hill for Charleston while Lexington is slated to throw Luis Pardo (0-5, 4.56 ERA).
