APPLEBEE'S PARK (Lexington, KY) ---- The Lexington Legends 2009 season will kick-off their ninth season of professional baseball on Monday, April 13th against the Kannapolis Intimidators at 7:05 the team announced on Friday.

The Legends and ballpark Applebee's Park will also be celebrating its ninth straight season of being a Houston Astros affiliate and a member of the historic South Atlantic League; a deal that extends into 2012.

Kannapolis, the Class-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, finished the second half of the SAL in 2008 at 36-29, which was good for third place in the SAL Southern Division.

2009 will be the second consecutive season the Legends have started their season on the road and third overall in franchise history. Lexington will hit the road to take on the West Virginia Power on April 9th, 2009 prior to their series against the Intimidators.

The Power changed their affiliation to the Pittsburgh Pirates this off-season and will be ushering in a new era in Charleston (WV) on the opening weekend of minor league baseball. West Virginia, formerly a Milwaukee Brewers' affiliate, won the second-half of the SAL Northern Division and made it into the SAL Championship game last year before being swept by Augusta.

Last year the Legends kicked off their 2008 campaign against Asheville, where the Tourists took three of four from Lexington. Fans are encouraged to call the box office at 422-7867 to reserve their season tickets today.
