Saturday nights 62-10 Rough Rider victory over the Tupelo Fireants did more than count as a win, it kept Peoria in playoff contention as well as setting another milestone for Coach Bruce Cowdrey. The lopsided game gave Cowdrey his 65th win as coach in Peoria and his 70th win overall in indoor/arena football.
In 2000, Coach Cowdrey's Peoria team tied an all time professional football record by completing a perfect 17-0 record enroute to the IFL Gold Cup Championship. Bruce has established an incredible 65-34 record including four league championship appearances.
Known for his on field intensity, discipline and ability to recruit talented players, Coach Cowdrey brings over 25 years coaching and recruiting experience to the Peoria Rough Rider organization. Bruce's indoor experience other than with the Peoria includes a brief stint with the af2 Pensacola Barracudas and the Madison Mad Dogs of the Indoor Football League. Coach Cowdrey was the Offensive Line Coach for the Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in 1991.
Prior to coaching in the CFL, Cowdrey was an assistant coach at Indiana State, Fort Hays State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Northwestern, South Carolina, and Missouri. Bruce is very active in community events in the Peoria area and is involved with local fundraising and charity events.
A Missouri native, Coach Cowdrey and his wife Melody reside in Dunlap.
