New Haven County Cutters News Release
Ryan Bonesio, who led the league in starts last season and went to minor league spring training with the Kansas City Royals, re-signed with the New Haven County Cutters Monday. The 23-year-old lefthander started 19 games in his first full minor league season, compiling a record of 5-7 with an earned run average of 4.93 in a team-leading 111.1 innings.
"Ryan is a hard throwing lefty who will help solidify our starting rotation," said Manager Mike Church. "We liked the way he got stronger as the season progressed last year."
The 6-2, 205-pound Carrollton, TX native pitched the best game of his career in his final start, going seven and two thirds innings, allowing only two earned runs and scattering six hits in a victory over Elmira. He struck out a season high eight batters.
Bonesio started his professional career with the New York Yankees' Gulf Coast League team in 2003.
New Haven County now has 23 players on its roster with the start of spring training three weeks away (May 15). Thirteen are pitchers with three right-handers and three southpaws expected to vie for the five available spots in the starting rotation.
The Cutters' home opener is on Memorial Day, May 30, at 6:05 p.m. against the Bangor Lumberjacks. A fireworks show will follow the game. Season and group tickets are available at Yale Field or by calling 203 777-5636. Information also may be obtained at www.CuttersBaseball.com.
