Lee, Hall Lead Comeback as Spikes Draw with Thunder
July 27, 2021 - Major League Baseball Draft League (MLBDL)
State College Spikes News Release
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Down 5-0 in the fourth inning, the State College Spikes came back behind Cameron Lee's first Major League Baseball Draft League home run and a record-setting running game led by Hylan Hall and Zacchaeus Rasberry to draw with the Trenton Thunder, 6-6, on Tuesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Lee, the son of former major leaguer Derrek Lee, took a 1-1 pitch from Trenton (25-12) starter Justin Garcia 400 feet over the left field wall in the fourth inning to put the Spikes (21-26) on the board. The State College of Florida product has now driven in 11 runs over 19 games with the Spikes.
State College also set a single-game franchise record with eight stolen bases as a team, surpassing a mark set on July 2, 2011 against the Auburn Doubledays. Hall led the way with two stolen bases, including a daring steal of third base in the sixth that led to the game-tying run. Rasberry also stole two bases, both in the sixth inning.
Lukas Cook, Marques Paige, Luke Seidel and Brady Brecklin grabbed a bag apiece to fill out the record-setting effort.
Following Lee's home run and a solo home run in the fifth from Trenton's Bret Williams, his first of the year, an error by Thunder third baseman Jared DeSantolo allowed two runs to score in the bottom half of the fifth and make it 6-5.
Hall's double and steal of third was followed by Cook's sacrifice fly to center in the sixth to tie the game, where it would remain for the rest of the contest.
Trenton started building its lead in the opening frame when Andrew Cossetti hit his third homer of the season, a solo shot to left field. Cossetti also drove in a run in the fourth after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The game was shortened to seven innings per an MLB Draft League decision in the interests of player safety that Tuesday and Wednesday games would be seven innings in length.
Wednesday, the Spikes and Thunder meet in the middle game of their three-game series. The 6:35 p.m. matchup, which will also be seven innings, will feature left-hander Dalton Oates (1-0), who went six innings in his first start last Wednesday at Mahoning Valley, on the mound for the Spikes.
