DENVER – After lengthy discussions over the weekend, the National Lacrosse League announced it has reached a three-year Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Professional Lacrosse Players' Association. The agreement will cover the league's 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons.

The agreement includes a 4.3 percent average increase in players' salary over the three-year term. The deal also includes revenue sharing between the league and the players with respect to television, sponsorship and licensing revenues generated by the NLL. Players will also receive increased benefits in certain areas, including workers' compensation and per diems.

"The owners approved this deal unanimously," NLL commissioner Jim Jennings said in a statement released late Saturday night. "It's an agreement that allows us to work with our players and build this sport together. I'm thrilled that we'll be playing lacrosse this winter."

PLPA president Peter Schmitz concurred. "This is a good deal for both parties," he said. "Our primary focus was to ensure that our players prosper as the league prospers. We feel this agreement accomplished that."

The agreement was ratified Saturday by the league's board of governors and by the PLPA executive committee. The deal was reached after several months of negotiations that culminated in marathon negotiating sessions over the weekend.

"This is great news for Colorado Mammoth fans who truly have helped the NLL expand over the past two seasons," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "There are no distractions now and it's full speed ahead to the start of the season."

Jennings also offered his sincere thanks to the fans that make the NLL possible. "I would like to especially thank our great fans, who have endured some pain over the last few days as the labor negotiations reached into their final days and hours," he said. "I'm glad they can once again look forward to seeing the best lacrosse players in the world this season."
