NLL and Player's Association Agree on Three-Year Deal
October 4, 2004 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Anaheim Storm News Release
The National Lacrosse League announces it has reached a new three-year Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Professional Lacrosse Player's Association (PLPA). The agreement will cover the league's 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons.
The agreement includes an average increase in player's salary of four-point-three percent (4.3%) over the three-year term. The agreement also includes revenue sharing between the league and the players with respect to league television, sponsorship and licensing revenues generated by the NLL. Players will also receive increased benefits in areas including worker's compensation and per diems.
"The owners approved this deal unanimously", said NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings. "It's an agreement that allows us to work with our players and build this sport together. I'm thrilled that we'll be playing lacrosse this winter."
"This is a good deal for both parties", said Peter Schmitz, President of the PLPA. "Our primary focus was to ensure that our players prosper as the league prospers. We feel this agreement accomplished that."
The agreement was ratified earlier this evening by the league's Board of Governors and by the Executive Committee of the PLPA. The agreement was reached after several months of negotiations that culminated in marathon negotiating sessions over the weekend.
Commissioner Jennings also offered his sincere thanks to the fans that make the National Lacrosse League possible. "I would like to especially thank our great fans, who have endured some pain over the last few days as the labor negotiations reached into their final days and hours", said Jennings. "I'm glad they can once again look forward to seeing the best lacrosse players in the world this season."
