BURLINGTON, VT - Drew Bridges' leadoff home run in the top of the 11th inning gave the Staten Island Yankees a 3-2 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Monday night at historic Centennial Field.

Bridges drilled a 2-0 pitch from Tyler Painton (0-1) over the rightcenter field fence for just the second Staten Island home run in 11 games this season.

The Yankees had tied the game 2-2 in the seventh as they scored a run without the benefit of a hit. Reliever Marc Berube hit Chris Godinez to lead off the inning and Godinez came around to score on a pair of Berube wild pitches. Berube did settle down to retire three straight batters with the go ahead run on third base to keep game tied.

The Lake Monsters had great chances to take the lead and win the game, but stranded runners at second and third with no outs in the eighth and one out in the 10th. Then down a run in the 11th, Eli White was thrown out at the plate on a Miguel Guzman one-out grounder to short. Ed Rivera then struckout Nate Mondou to end the game and earn his second save. Vermont ended the night 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position, while Staten Island was just 1-for-11.

Earlier Vermont took a 2-1 lead as Jhonny Rodriguez led off the second with a double and later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one, then Miguel Mercedes scored from third in the fourth on a Rodriguez RBI groundout. Luis Barrera was 2-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, while Mercedes also went 2-for-5 and is now 10-for-19 in his last five games.

Yankee reliever David Palladino (2-0) allowed three hits and struckout six over three scoreless innings for the win, while starter Freicer Perez allowed two runs on four hits with six strikeouts over the first five innings for Staten Island (9-2). Vermont starter Heath Bowers allowed one run on four hits over 4 1/3 innings and has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his 18 appearances (nine starts) for the Lake Monsters the past two seasons.

The homestand continues for Vermont (4-7) on Tuesday as they begin a three-game series against the Aberdeen Ironbirds beginning at 7:05 pm. It is the first of three "Hot Dog Heaven" nights at Centennial with 25-cent McKenzies Hot Dogs on sale throughout the night. The first 500 fans will also receive a free water bottle courtesy of Sierra Trading Post.
