Utah Blaze News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze has been assigned versatile OL Lauvale Sape, the team announced today. Sape brings two years of Arena Football experience and previously played with the Blaze under Head Coach Ron James during the 2010 season.

"Sape is an AFL veteran with great experience and tremendous versatility," said James. "He can help us in several positions and adds a great deal of leadership and knowledge to our team. We are pleased to have him back in a Blaze uniform for the 2012 season."

After a standout career as a defensive tackle at the University of Utah, Sape was selected in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills, where he played for three seasons. In 2007, he enjoyed stints with the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans, as well as the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe.

Sape joined the Arena Football League in 2008 as a member of the New Orleans VooDoo before signing with the Colorado Crush midway through the season. He signed with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League in 2009 before returning to the AFL as a member of the Blaze in 2010.

The move also reunites Sape with his former college coach, Ron McBride. Sape previously played under McBride at the University of Utah, twice earning All-Mountain West Conference honors. The pair will again have the opportunity to work together with McBride leading the offensive line for the Blaze.
