Late Wenatchee Runs Sink Gems in Series Opener, 9-6

Klamath Falls, OR: June 27, 2013 The Klamath Falls Gems lost a heartbreaker to the Wenatchee AppleSox 9-6 on Thursday night at Kiger Stadium in the first game of a three game series. A two out three run double by Eric Hutting (Long Beach State University) in the 9th inning gave the AppleSox their first lead of the game, overcoming back to back home runs by the Gems Dylan Rogers (Oregon Tech) and Cody Hough (University of California Riverside) in the 5th inning.

Jack Karraker (Fresno City College) took the loss in relief for the Gems, falling to 1-1. Lars Rider (Wenatchee Valley CC) improved to 2-0 on the year with two innings of relief pitching for Wenatchee. The Gems remain in second place in the South Division, only one game behind the Bend Elks.

The next Gems game will be Friday, June 28th as the Gems host the Wenatchee AppleSox at Kiger Stadium with the first pitch at 6:35 pm.
