Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Thomasville, N.C. (June 10, 2015) - A missed opportunity to take the lead in the eighth inning proved costly for the Lexington County Blowfish as they fell 3-2 to the High Point-Thomasville HiToms on Wednesday night from Finch Field.
Lexington County had two runners in scoring position with one out following a Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina) sacrifice bunt. HiToms reliever Ryan Hedrick, who picked up the win, consecutively struck out Howard Joe (Mercer) and Trevor Bradley (USC-Aiken) to end the opportunity.
The HiToms gained the momentum. Back-to-back singles with nobody out put the home team in business in the eighth. A Teddy Hoffman groundout kept the HiToms at bay for a bit, but not for long. Daniel Millwee's soft grounder, ruled a fielder's choice with an error, scored Keenon Menard from third to give the HiToms the lead.
Hedrick, who allowed just one hit in his four innings of work, forced a 1-2-3 ninth inning to secure the one-run victory. For the reliever, it was his fourth win of the season.
Just like yesterday, Lexington County capitalized on an early opportunity. Four straight singles in the top of the third inning from Austin Garcia (Bethune-Cookman), Mitchell Price (USC-Aiken), Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) and J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion) drove one run in. Stokes added a sacrifice fly into left field to score one more.
The HiToms responded immediately. Daulton Mosbarger singled to start the bottom of the third. Following a Kody Ruedisili flyout, Nicholas Lopez slugged his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, to tie the game at 2.
Starting pitcher Heath Holder (University of Georgia), aside from the home run, was solid in his third start of 2015. Holder struck out seven batters. The only two hits he allowed coincided with the scoring play.
