Late Run Pushes Cary Past Queen City

April 29, 2013 - Tobacco Road Basketball League (TRBL)
Cary Invasion News Release

Concord, NC: The Cary Invasion escaped Concord with a win on Sunday night, defeating the Queen City Express 117-106.

In what was a thrilling game from start to finish, last year's TRBL runners-up went on a 20-7 run to close the game in the last four-plus minutes, led by the sharp shooting of Marsheree Neely and Corey Evans.

The Invasion took just their second double-digit lead with under a minute to play just moments after allowing Queen City to take a 99-97 lead. The Invasion used a suffocating pressure defense to force the Express into a series of untimely turnovers, nearly all of which they capitalized on.

Daniel Jackson led the way for the Invasion with 20 points, while Evans and Paul Wright finished with 19 and 18 respectively. Invasion center Charles Ward posted the team's only double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Queen City was led by Mark Horsley, who led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Phil Barnes posted 19 points and grabbed nine boards.

The Express (2-2) will be in action again next Saturday in Greensboro against the Cobras, while Cary (5-0) doesn't play again until May 11th at home against Bull City. Stats available at www.trblproball.com.
