
Late rally lifts G-Braves

GREENVILLE _ Kelly Johnson's opposite-field double, his third hit of the game, capped a three-run Greenville rally and lifted the Braves to a 4-3 Southern League victory over the Jacksonville Suns Thursday night.
The win ended a 6-game losing streak and kicked off an 8-game homestand for the G-Braves (18-21). Greenville managed three hits through the first eight innings and trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the ninth. Cory Aldridge led off with a walk against Jacksonville closer Lino Urdaneta (0-4). James Jurries, Bill McCarthy and Johnson followed with consecutive doubles, handing the Suns their 10th loss in 11 games.
The rally made a winner of Kazuhiro Takeoka, the fourth Greenville pitcher of the night. Johnson, who is hitting. 390 in his last 16 games, collected two singles and a sacrifice fly in his first three trips to the plate.
The Suns, who combined three hits to score two third-inning runs, took a 3-1 lead in the seventh on a two-out double Tony Socarras.
A walk to Adam LaRoche, a double by Jurries and a sacrifice fly by Johnson provided the first Greenville run in the fourth inning.
The teams meet in the second game of the series at 7:15 p.m. Friday, when Greenville's Bubba Nelson (3-2) takes the mound against Jacksonville's Eric Stults (2-4). The game will be followed by a fireworks display.
The series continues with a 7:15 p.m. game Saturday and a 1:15 p.m. game Sunday.
