Huntsville Stars News Release

Jackson, TN – Maybe the Stars needed to get on the road, where they are now 11-4. More likely, they just ran into some hot Tennessee pitchers. After scoring just four runs in losing three of four at home to the Smokies, Huntsville routed West Tenn, 10-4, on Thursday night in its first visit to Pringles Park this season.

The Stars scored more runs in the first inning versus the Diamond Jaxx than they had in the entire Tennessee series. The first six batters reached safely against Jaxx starter Russ Rohlicek. Ryan Knox singled and Dave Krynzel was hit by a pitch. J.J. Hardy singled to load the bases, and Corey Hart singled in a run. Brandon Gemoll ripped a two-run double into the rightfield corner, and Darryl Clark was plunked to load the bases again. Richard Paz grounded into a double play, plating Hart from third. Mike Kremblas added a singled that scored Gemoll for a 5-0 Stars lead.

Leading 6-3 in the sixth, Huntsville sealed the game. Knox led off with a walk, and one out later Hardy doubled to left-center to score Knox. With two down, Gemoll doubled home Hardy for an 8-3 lead. Kremblas lashed a solo homer in the seventh, his second of the year, and Chris Barnwell singled in the Stars' final run in the ninth.

"I watched the pitchers, trying to keep the mental part of hitting in mind," said Stars shortstop J.J. Hardy, who made his first start Tuesday after being out of the lineup for 15 straight games. "That's one of the biggest parts of hitting, even if you're not playing. I'm taking this as a second start to the season, and I want to get off to hot start again.

Starter Mike Jones' scoreless innings streak ended in the first, when Jason Dubois' sacrifice fly made the score 5-1, Stars. Jones tossed a remarkable 21 1/3 scoreless innings spanning his last four outings. Jones (5-1) won for the fourth time in his last five starts, allowing three runs on six hits and four walks over five innings. Matt Childers notched his second save, permitting one run on four hits and one walk in four innings of relief. Rohlicek (1-2) suffered his second loss, giving up six hits and five earned runs in three innings.
