Lowell Spinners News Release
LOWELL, MA - Going into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, trailed the Connecticut Tigers, affiliate of the Detroit Tigers 3-0.
The Spinners (33-29) loaded the bases up to begin the inning on a single by Gilberto Jimenez, followed by walks from both Cameron Cannon and Stephen Scott. After taking the first pitch for a ball, Wil Dalton followed with a check-swing grounder to second that scored Jimenez - making it 3-1 in favor of the Tigers (30-31).
On the grounder, Scott and Cannon moved up to second and third, respectively, but could not move further after the next two batters both were retired by way of outfield outs - finalizing the score.
On Saturday night, the first six innings were scoreless as both teams were unable to crack the scoreboard - despite numerous opportunities on both sides.
In the top of the seventh, however, Connecticut got on the board with three runs in the frame alone. Jose King drove home Eliezer Alfonzo on an RBI single to center field, Alfonzo scoring on an errant throw by Jimenez that was lodged in the netting by the third base dugout.
On a happier note, Chris Murphy got the start for Lowell and pitched well - increasing his scoreless streak to 16 consecutive innings. Murphy went 4.0 innings, allowing three hits while striking out three and walking just one.
The Spinners are back in action on Sunday night for "Halloween Night". There will be a Halloween costume contest on social media as well as a 1,000-pound candy drop after the game. First pitch is at 5:05 p.m.
The Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, offer Season Ticket Packages, Mini-Plans, Group Sales, and Single Game Tickets.
